The Town of Boston was founded in 1630 and incorporated as a city in 1822. The following cities and towns were annexed to Boston: City of Roxbury (1868); Town of Dorchester (1870); City of Charlestown (1874); Town of Brighton (1874); Town of West Roxbury (1874); and Town of Hyde Park (1912). Scope and Contents note This collection contains the records for the Town of Dorchester from the late eighteenth century to 1870 when the town was annexed to the City of Boston.
